About Overlook Hotel Records
Overlook Hotel Records is an independent record label founded by Kevin Hartnell in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1999. What began as a DIY outlet for home-recorded and archival music gradually developed into a catalog encompassing more than 130 releases and 900 tracks.
The label grew from Hartnell’s background in independent recording, electronic composition, sampling, and experimental music. Early releases were produced and distributed largely by hand, while later years brought an expanding circle of musicians, collaborative projects, and music ranging from electronic, synthpop, darkwave, and post-punk to progressive rock, metal, ambient music, traditional forms, and original scores.
More than a particular genre defines Overlook Hotel Records. The catalog reflects an ongoing interest in exploration, collaboration, and making music on its own terms.
